Your white carpet is not naturally white it is died white if you use bleach then it may turn green or worse it may look ok for a week or so but it will destroy your carpet we sometimes use. White carpets are not created by the removal of colors and pigments. Bleach will take out all of the color and leave you with weird white spots. Scrubbing will force the bleach deeper into the carpet fibers.
You can lighten some carpets with white vinegar. Alternatively you can use 1 cup 240 ml of water with a few drops of clear dish soap to blot the stain.
